Welcome to the Apocalypse

7 Days to Die drops you into a post-apocalyptic world with nothing but your wits and a few basic tools. The clock is ticking — on Day 7, a massive horde of zombies will descend on your position. Here's how to make it to that first blood moon and beyond.

Day 1: Don't Panic — Prioritize

The moment you spawn, resist the urge to explore randomly. You have a checklist to follow:

  1. Find your bearings. Open the map (M key) and locate any nearby points of interest (POIs) — houses, gas stations, or sheds are goldmines of early loot.
  2. Gather wood and stone. Punch trees and pick up rocks from the ground. You need these immediately.
  3. Craft a Stone Axe. This is your most important early tool — it speeds up resource gathering dramatically.
  4. Collect plant fibers. Harvest grass and shrubs to craft a Fiber Headband and basic clothing for warmth.
  5. Find or build shelter before dark. Zombies become more aggressive at night. Do not be caught in the open.

Days 2–3: Establish a Base

Now that you've survived night one, focus on sustainability. A basic dirt or wood shelter won't hold up forever, but it buys you time.

  • Upgrade your tools. Craft a Stone Shovel and Stone Pickaxe to speed up mining and construction.
  • Find a permanent base location. Look for an existing building you can reinforce, or stake out flat ground to build from scratch.
  • Set a Land Claim Block. This reduces the structural damage your base takes during horde nights.
  • Start stockpiling food and water. Boil water in a cooking pot and hunt or forage for food. Hunger and thirst are real threats.

Days 4–6: Loot, Craft, and Fortify

You have a few days before the first blood moon. Use them wisely:

  • Loot nearby residential areas for canned food, clothing, weapons, and medicine.
  • Upgrade your base walls from wood to cobblestone using a Stone Shovel and small stones.
  • Craft or find a bow and arrows — ranged combat is essential for controlling horde positions.
  • Place wooden spikes around your base perimeter to slow incoming zombies.
  • Craft a Workbench if possible — it unlocks more advanced crafting recipes.

Day 7: Surviving the Blood Moon Horde

The horde night is relentless. Every zombie in the region will be drawn toward you. Here are the keys to survival:

  • Stay elevated. Build a platform or use your base's upper floor to avoid melee damage.
  • Have ammo and weapons ready. Stock up on arrows, bullets, or molotovs before the sun sets.
  • Repair as you go. Keep Stone and Wood in your inventory to patch damage mid-horde.
  • Don't get cornered. Always have an escape route planned.
